I saw one small buck. We finally got some cold weather, little bit of snow so I guess it got them moving but it was a little to late. We will hit em hard again next year Lord willing. Let me know how your season ends. Jim | Jim Krenek |

The big bucks where I hunt still have their antlers but they are really hard to hunt! I passed on one 10 pointer that has been under my stand both last year and this year (he doesn’t know my lock on stand is there, it is hid so well it is hard for me to find) and I hope to take him next year; he should be in the 5.5+ year old class and be a record book trophy. I hope I don’t regret the pass, it was sure hard to let him walk! I have one old buck that I’m still trying to get before he drops his horns. Other than a management deer or two, we didn’t take anything worth mentioning. Jim, like your weather, ours has been wet and windy, especially windy this season. But like always, it was still fun! Best regards to all! George | THE BUCK STOPS HERE! |

We had a lot of fun, didn’t see a whole lot of deer but we did manage to get a couple. Our hunting season was mainly wet and windy this year not to many GREAT hunting days, but any day in the deer woods is better than anything at work. I hope everone had a safe year and we will hit em hard again next time... now its time to get ready for a little fishing and give them bucks a rest..... Looing forward to a great 2009 season.... That’s what it’s all about, getting those boys outdoors so they can have a good time and create some good memories! Sure glad the oldest boy got a shot, that is good experience for him. It sounds like your neighbor needs to make a change, either re-site in his gun or bow and for sure not to make a shot unless he has a good shot to take. Good luck on your 29th hunt! | THE BUCK STOPS HERE! |

jekrenek Location: MD posts: 27 Member | 9. Re:Southern Maryland Hunting 11/18/2008 5:56 PM | | well the boys did not get a hunt that morning, so we put them on the stands as soon as the rain stopped (big rains) (shot lived) it was pretty breezy, the oldest boy shot at and missed a small buck with his bow. He now knows what it feels like to see your arrow hit a twig and go wide!!! other than that more wind and rain.... We are looing forward to the 29th, it is well after our rut but hey we will have a great time as long as the weather holds. Wow seeing 23 deer that is awesome...... we are having problems with one neighbor he has now shot 5 deer and could not find a one. We found a doe dead on my buddys property. Almost seems sinful to take those shots you are not sure of. | Jim Krenek |

Re:Southern Maryland Hunting 11/18/2008 10:52 AM | | Jim, the 15th was our second weekend of the gun season and it was so windy that it had crossed our minds to not hunt as we thought for sure that the deer would not move in the wind. However, all of us in the club did hunt and all of us saw plenty of deer just no wall hangers. Our location showed a light shade of green and I have a test copy of the deerdays period calculator and it was very accurate. Despite the wind (15 MPH) I saw 23 deer from the same stand (I’m in a funnel area). So hopefully your 15th youth hunt was successful despite the weather; hope you didn’t get any of the rain that was forecasted! How did it end up for the weekend? | THE BUCK STOPS HERE! |

My buddys boys are upset, windy with 100% chance of rain..... hope all are having a great season. | Jim Krenek |

Today the two most serious hunting accidents seem to be tree stand related or ATV related. Everybody needs to take the time to put that safety harness on, if you don’t have one, get one, it’s the best hunting investment you’ll ever make. Most hunters don’t like that is takes time in the morning to untangle it and then put it on; I don’t either that’s why I bought me on of those safety systems that is like putting on a hunting vest. It is easy to put on, and it is never tangled up. I highly recommend it. Good luck this weekend and be careful! | I also have one of the "vest" style harnesses and I absolutely LOVE it. While I never minded the full-body FAS that is supplied with most elevated stands, the vest style goes on easier and doesn’t require a college degree to fold back up again for storage. Can’t imagine going into a stand for more that a few moments without one. Too many things to distract me while I am 20 ft up...oh look, a butterfly....... |

We are the doe’s only portion of the season, it’s been very windy but hopfully this weekend will end with some meat in the freezer. Hope everyone is having a great season so far. Be Safe out there, we have already had one fatality this year where a hunter fell out of his stand, not wearing a harness. | Jim Krenek |

However I want to wish you and yours a very good, happy, and safe deer season this year; and I hope that youngest son gets his first deer. There’s nothing like seeing that first hand! If he does get that first deer post the picture and tell me about it in the forum.
