auto fill of weather
It is now September 2016. Has there been any advancement in resolving the autofill option for the weather? This is actually a very nice feature when it worked.

some tips about hunting turkey.....
Turkey hunting in the fall is quite different from hunting turkeys in the spring. For one thing, it is not breeding season so turkey calls are not of as much use. In the fall, turkeys separate into groups of hens and poults or groups of gobblers. If you see one hen, you are not likely to see a gobbler in the entire flock. Turkeys tend to stay down in the open fields eating bugs until a hard freeze. They will then migrate up into the hardwood forests for beech nuts, acorns, etc. You can determine when this has happened by locating turkey scratchings in the leaves. If you know where they are roosting and where they are feeding, you can position yourself between the two areas. If you walk in too close to their roost, they will hear you and avoid you when they fly down.  Hunting is allowed all day long within designated hunting hours. Again, turkeys harvested must be checked-in at a checking station. Loaded the new beta and like the layout.  Runs good so far and I will keep you updated.  I use the software as a journal and have planned my hunting season with it.  I use Primetime software and my Garmin GPS for hunting times as well and so far the times are very close.  I will not have to purchase the Primetime next season if you ca be more time specific.  Keep the improvements coming.  I do hope that we will be able to upload maps with the other data soon.  I have a laptop mounted in my truck and sync it with my home and office computers.  I have to manually update the maps with a zip drive which is a pain.  This would also act as a back up in the event something happened to your computer.  A Mac version would be good as well.  I hate PC’s and have to run your software using VMware.  It works but I would rather not use windows at all.  Hope this helps and I will add more as I use it.

I am ready to help with feedback.  I have to manually enter the movement times from my Primetime software and other moon phase sources and it is cumbersome.  Please take away the pain...

I’m a newcomer to the DeerDays group, but I’ve been hunting for 30+ years.
Like ColdBeer, I too would love to get in on this project.  With around 12 trailcam’s out in the field doing alot of scouting for us, plus all the personal time afield, I think the data that could be provided would really be helpful.
If you’ve already got plenty of people on board, that’s fine too.  I’ll be waiting to read the results!

Be safe and good hunting!

Swampbuck25, I checked on adding the sunrise and sunset times by location and we are planning to do that and will try to have it on the next big release if possible.  The next version will have the Periodic Calculator for deer feeding movement by day periods, and the hand held PC/cell phone version.  We are not sure exactly how to display it because of calendar space limitations but we will likely default the times for today and allow you to click on any day of the calendar and it will display the sunrise and sunset times for that day.

Predator1, as I mentioned above, we are cramped for space on the calendar but we have had several requests including yours and Swampbuck25’s, so we are planning to add that as well; assuming space is available, it will likely be a lunar icon on each calendar day displaying the proper wan of he moon.  No promises as to when as we have a pretty full plate now with the current request, but we will try to have this all done by the next big release as well.  There is a lot of programming involved in just the lunar and sunrise/sunset modules; much less the other hand held PC/cell phone version and finishing up on the Periodic Calculator.  But the good news is we are hunters just like you guys and we want all of this so bad we are willing to put in the overtime to get it done as soon as reasonably possible without losing any integrity of the systems.  Keep in mind that all of this is predicated on not cutting to deep into our hunting… I mean field testing time!

Here is what we are testing with so far:

Here is a close up of a Orange day:

If you notice there is a "EM" then a blank then a "LM" with brackets on it, next to that there is a "Ea" then 2 blanks then a "La" this is the times that we predict that deer are likely to move. Look at the [Lm] That stands for Late Morning. The Brakets indicate that this is the best time out of all of the othere times to see a deer.
This is still an Orange day however so the chances that you might see a deer will be rare anyway.. but is best at these times.

Here is a close up of a GreenDay:

Notice it has more times on it.
EarlyMorning, Mid Morning, Early Afternoon, and in brackets it has Mid Afternoon and Late Afternoon. The only time that isn’t a good time this day is Late Morning. so it is not present. This is a green day so there is a good chance you will see a deer during these times.

We have been testing and tweeking this formula for almost the whole 2 years.. We are feeling really good about its accuracy. I’m amazed how accurate it is.. I want to start beta testing this with a couple of dedicated gold members as early as November. If any gold member is intrested in testing this and activly providing feedback please let us know.

There has been a lot of study on the moon in relation to deer movement, one that comes to mind is a book called “Moon Struck!” by Jeff Murray.  This book basically yields to the moon positioning, where to hunt and when, and not the phases; good information. Since the DeerDays calculations are based on years of data collection we have not included lunar phase or positioning or any other possible cause for deer movement, but rather go by what the data tells us in relation to feeding patterns and trends no matter what is at the root of the pattern or trend.  In other words, we report the formula results and not the necessarily the cause of the results.  We at DeerDays have not added the sun rise and sunset for the locations but rather have been spending most of our time working on the best period of the day for deer movement. For a long time we have worked on this project and have had it in field testing for the first time starting last year.  We have made a lot of changes to the calculations and some recent adjustments are now being tested for accuracy.  There are a lot of factors that affect deer movement that would override our calculations so we focus mostly on the ones that involve deer feeding patterns outside of deer movement factors like the rut, barometric pressure, and weather.   We want to release the “Periodic Calculator” as soon as we can but we want it to be as accurate as possible before we release it.  It has always been our goal to keep all predictions as simple as possible without the worry of sunrise/sunset times, meridian calculations and the like.  Our “Periodic Calculator” has been designed for standard time (since the majority of hunting is done in standard time apposed to daylight savings time), your hunting location, and given in periods of the day and not specific time periods.  For example, instead of saying the best time to hunt is from 7:10AM EST to 7:52 AM EST, we simply say the best likely time to see deer is early morning for your location.  DeerDays is planning on releasing the Periodic Calculator and the hand held DeerDays version at the same time so it will be easy to take it to the woods with you.  I’ll check on adding a sunrise/sunset calculator by location for you.  Thank you for the post and have a safe and happy hunting season!

have you come any farther on adding moon phase,or maybe atleast add sunrise sunset for hunting locations.

also notice you had said in past post from 2 yrs ago that you where working on best times for game activity? have you come any further on this?
