Turkey hunting in the fall is quite different from hunting turkeys in the spring. For one thing, it is not breeding season so turkey calls are not of as much use. In the fall, turkeys separate into groups of hens and poults or groups of gobblers. If you see one hen, you are not likely to see a gobbler in the entire flock. Turkeys tend to stay down in the open fields eating bugs until a hard freeze. They will then migrate up into the hardwood forests for beech nuts, acorns, etc. You can determine when this has happened by locating turkey scratchings in the leaves. got a nice 8 point on 11/15/08 in marion co, after all the wind we been having this year.  i guest it luck i got one first day. but as I SAY YOU  HAD A GOOD SEASON IF YOU SEE ONE , A BETTER IF YOU GET A SHOT AT ONE , THE BEST SEASON IF YOU KILL ONE . Ican not wait till the front stuffer season start the 28 of nov. good luck hunt to all

Hey folks, I’m in North Central Arkansas.  I think that we’re 2 weeks ahead of most years rut.  I believe that our first rut was the last week of October and first week of November.  I was seeing bucks chasing doe all during those weeks.  However, since then, I have seen few bucks and a lot of doe.  This past weekend, I saw young bucks trying to check doe, but the doe would actually run as soon as they saw the buck coming.  Are you seeing this same activity up in Missouri?  My Dad actually saw a young fawn sucking on a doe last Saturday.  This is very late for a doe to have a fawn still on her.  It didn’t have spots, but it’s still very young.  It’ll be around Christmas before this doe will be bred.  If she continues on that cycle, she’ll always have a late birth.  Sure makes it tough on her and her young ones.

im on the other side of the state the buck are running but not the doe hope that change by the gun season on the youth hunt we seen a lot of buck . i hope  this 4 point restriction help with the bigger buck in the years to come.

Just wondering if there were any hunters located in or close to Northwest Missouri?  I have been hunting since opening day archery and have seen several deer. A guy that lives about 5 miles from me just harvested a 17 boint buck!  Anyone else having any luck?
