They do it for similar reasona buck will but maily they do it as a marking tool to mark their travel routes. They will rub their scent onto a tree to mark thier travel coradors. Not for dominance. This is common for younger deer to do this but you will very rarely ever see them do this. More mature does 3.5 and older I dont believe need to do this as they have their runways and funnles memorized. Hope this helps. If you want a buck, hunt the does. |

I guess we could be considered conservationists also, by watching and learning. | I love hunting! New Deer Days is Great! |

Re:Do Doe’s rub tree’s also? 11/19/2006 4:09 PM | | The deer in the picture could be a button buck but it looks like an older deer; my guess would be a small spike with pencil size antlers. Does do deposit scent on trees and brush much more than hunters realize; they will use saplings more than they deposit scent in scrapes. I saw a doe last year walk up to a scrape, bypassed the scrape, and then preceded to a buck rub near the scrape and rubbed her orbital glands on the rub depositing scent. Several year ago, I observed what I thought was a doe that freshened up a scrape and then made a rub just like in this picture. Then the deer came right under my climber and I could see that it was a pencil spike. |

I know that bucks do this because of a scent gland they have on their head I was under the impression that does do not have this gland. I have seen what looked like a doe doing this years ago (I assumed it was a spike and I never saw the horns.) | They can have my bow when they pry it from my cold dead fingers! |

However, if the doe is ready for breeding, will they rub their scent on the tree, to let the buck know it is time? go to photo gallery & look at the picture I uploaded. send your comments back. camera does a nice job.
