My experience has been that 10 mph is about the breaking point and the greater the wind over 10 mph the less deer I see. The only exception has been during the rut when I was using some very good deer estrus; and the wind actually was a big help in these cases. |

Re:Hunting in the wind 12/26/2006 8:43 AM | | When I am bow hunting and have a wind that is greater than 15 mph and cannot find a spot out of the wind I just go inside for two reasons. The first reason is that my arrow is affected too much by the wind. The second reason is that the deer don’t seem to get up and walk around when there is that much wind. Don’t get me wrong I have seen deer in windy situations but it’s normally because they got jumped up by a dog or something. |

Seasons coming to and end! | It’s always amazing to me how much the wind or the rain has on the accuracy of the arrow. I will hunt windy days and have taken bucks on windy days with a bow, but I always try to hunt an area with target to see the drift so I know how much to allow for wind drift. the least amount of wind. In the mountains you can usually find a valley or niche that is out of the main wind, much harder to do on the flat lands. But if I’m hunting the flats on a windy day, I will normally shoot a target to see the drift so I know how much to allow for wind drift. |
