I would like to help you with your problem but how we check to see if you’re a valid user is through the use of web services. So unless your IT department is blocking web services then all you should have to have open is the internet ports 80 and 8080. If you IT department is blocking web services then they will need to allow them in order for the software to work.
If you it department is unwilling to do this then my suggestion to you is to unplug your laptop/computer and take it to a network that isn’t so restrictive and activate our software then plug it back into your existing network. Our software only requires the internet for 2 functions. 1. Registering your product and 2. Downloading today’s weather information on the sightings report (this button is optional).
This is the first time we have had anyone complain that they cannot register their product with the version your running and actually had internet access. It is my personal opinion that your IT department needs to look into giving more access to regular internet functions.
you might want to have your IT department look at this so they know what ports are used for. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_TCP_and_UDP_port_numbers
